Sometimes it would be really useful to be able to look into installation packages *without* installing them. There is an Explorer for installations produced by the open source installation generator “InnoSetup”, which I found quite useful.
Recently I had the need to find out what version of a specific file is included in one of the IntraWeb installation packs. Sure, in a perfect world we should have an exact documentaion, which would answer this question. But the world is not perfect
As we use InnoSetup for our installations, I looked at their web page to check if there is some kind of “unpack” tool. Even better, an InnoSetup community member offers an “Inno Setup Unpacker”, which is an Explorer style tool that shows the whole content of InnoSetup packages:
This tool is called “innounp, the Inno Setup Unpacker“, it comes even with a command line version, which could be used in scripts or to integrate with other tools such as Total Commander etc.
Great piece of software, get it for free from the author’s home page.
