Yesterday I found a suspicious directory on my system:

c:\program files\Google BAE

It had a BAE.dll and two batch files apparently for the purpose of (un-)installing that DLL:

regsvr32 /s BAE.dll

Some Anti-Virus programs mark this file as “bad”, and mention for example “Win32:Adware-gen [Adw]”.

Obviously that file is from Google, and some research on, well,  Google showed, that this is somehow a Browser Plugin. Apparently it has the purpose of redirecting to a Google page (filled with ads of course) if you enter a non-existing domain name in your browser.

Here is one of the few blog entries I found on this topic:

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/05/googles-browser-address-error.html

I decided that I don’t need such a thing, so I removed it from my system:

  • delete c:\program files\Google BAE
  • delete all entries in the Registry that reference bae.dll

Warning: Backup your system first! I am not responsible for any damage caused by wrong Registry modifications.

Back to work.
